Katie O'Hagan completed an Honours Bachelor of Music with a double major in flute performance and music history at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario. During her years at WLU, she was active as a freelance musician and music teacher in the Kitchener-Waterloo region. In 2010, Katie moved to Ottawa to attend law school. Now a practising lawyer, Katie keeps up the musical side of her life by collaborating with Nicole Bowers as part of the KeyNote Duo and sharing her love of flute and piano music with her students. She also plays regularly in a flute trio and occasionally with a local orchestra. In her spare time, Katie finds balance through yoga, unwinds with classic movies, and survives with coffee.
Nicole Bowers has played piano for most of her life and has been a full-time piano teacher for over 5 years. She is a Music for Young Children (MYC) teacher, and also enjoys teaching private students of all ages and musical ability in her home studio. When Nicole is not teaching piano, she keeps herself busy as a freelance musician with the KeyNote Duo. She is also an oboist and has held the first oboe chair in the University of Ottawa Concert Band and the Ottawa Community Concert Band. Nicole continually pursues professional development by taking courses in the psychology of learning disabilities through Athabasca University, as well as online music courses from Berklee. In her spare time, Nicole is an avid reader, aspiring songwriter, fusion cuisine-ist, occasional yogi, and coffee enthusiast.
